How it Works

Scannafest turns a Metrc transfer manifest into a live scan sheet. Scan packages in any order as they come off the truck, watch what's still outstanding, and export a clean receiving record when the delivery is done. Here is the whole routine, start to finish.

  1. Get the manifest out of Metrc

    Open the incoming transfer in Metrc and download its packages list as an Excel file. That is the only thing Scannafest needs. There is nothing to connect, no keys to paste in, and no import step.

  2. Load it onto the sheet

    Click Add files, or drag the spreadsheet anywhere onto the page. Every package on the manifest becomes a row. If more than one delivery is landing, load them all at once — each manifest gets its own color down the left edge of its rows so two transfers never blur together.

  3. Name the delivery optional

    A file called Metrc-Incoming_0004641838_Packages.xlsx tells you nothing about which truck it was. Click the pencil on a file card in the sidebar and rename it to something you'll recognise, like Green Peak — Tue AM. The new name shows on the card and in the exported record.

  4. Start scanning

    Don't click anything first. The scan box keeps itself selected, so a barcode gun works the moment the page is open. Scan packages in any order — every scan is checked against the whole sheet and drops into its own row, so you never have to find the line first.

    • Short high beep. Matched. The row turns green, ticks off, and the counter moves.
    • Mid tone. You already scanned that package.
    • Low buzz. That tag isn't on any manifest you've loaded.

    The tones are there so nobody has to watch the screen while a pallet is coming off.

  5. Keep an eye on what's left

    The sidebar shows how many packages are scanned against the total, with a separate progress bar for each manifest. Turn on Hide scanned to leave only what you are still looking for, or type into the filter box to jump to a particular item or tag.

  6. Deal with surprises at the end

    Anything scanned that isn't on the paperwork collects in the Unexpected panel instead of stopping the count. Scanned the wrong box? Hover its row and click the × in the Scan column to clear that one scan.

  7. Export the record

    Press Export for a spreadsheet listing every package, what was scanned against it, which manifest it came from, and whether it arrived — plus anything scanned that wasn't expected. It opens straight in Excel. File it with the transfer.

If you get interrupted

Your count is saved as you scan. Close the tab, lose power, walk away for an hour — reopen the page and the delivery is exactly where you left it. If an amber strip appears under the top bar, that machine is blocking browser storage: everything still works, but finish the count in one sitting and export before closing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it connect to Metrc?
No. Scannafest reads the transfer manifest spreadsheet you download from Metrc yourself. It has no API keys, no login to your licence, and no ability to change anything in your state system. It is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Metrc.
Which files does it accept?
Excel exports (.xlsx, .xlsm, .xls) and .csv. The package ID is read from column A and the item name from column E, which is the layout of the incoming transfer manifest export. Header rows are detected and skipped, and extra columns are ignored.
What kind of barcode scanner do I need?
Any scanner that behaves like a keyboard — it types the code and presses Enter. That covers almost every USB and Bluetooth handheld on the market. The scan box keeps itself focused, so there is nothing to click before scanning.
What happens if I scan something that isn't on the manifest?
You get a low error tone and the code is added to the Unexpected list in the sidebar. The delivery keeps moving and the discrepancy is waiting for you at the end, including in the exported CSV.
Can I scan the packages in any order?
Yes, and that is the point. Nothing comes off a truck in the order it appears on the paperwork. Every scan is matched against the entire sheet at once and lands in its own row wherever that row happens to be.
What happens to my data?
Nothing leaves your computer. Scannafest runs entirely inside your browser: the spreadsheet is opened locally, the scanning happens on your machine, and no copy of your inventory is sent anywhere. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. The only thing that ever leaves this page is a message deliberately typed into the contact form.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes. After the first visit the page is stored on the machine, so it opens and runs with no connection at all — useful in a warehouse or on a dock with no signal. You only need a connection occasionally so it can pick up improvements.
Do I have to install anything?
No. There is no installer, no administrator password, and nothing running in the background. If you would like it to feel like an app, most browsers will let you pin the page to your desktop or taskbar.
